The launch of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Internet Data Channel (IDC) is dedicated to improving digital connectivity between western China and ASEAN by offering users high-speed information communication and data transmission. It is the first data channel established in China to a single country and has been made available in a number of industrial parks in Chongqing. The dedicated data channel boasts high speed and wide bandwidth while supporting cross-border data transfers and telemedicine services. This year, Singapore Company Global Data Solutions Limited also expects to break ground on its new data center in Chongqing.
The China-Singapore (Chongqing) International Internet Data Channel (IDC) is a landmark in the effort of strengthening connectivity between China and Singapore. As one of the new channels for the international land-sea trade, it is the first international data channel established in China to a single country that provides high speed, low latency and ultra-high reliability, achieving 75% reduction in delays compared with a standard network.
The project was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The channel was launched in Singapore. Contracts were signed among the first companies to use the IDC. The event attracted dignitaries including Chen Min’er, Member of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Communist Party Secretary of Chongqing municipality, and Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade Industry of Singapore.
The fifth committee meeting of the China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity (CCI) was held virtually using the IDC. The two countries reached a consensus on enhancing the IDC efforts and improving its demonstration effect.
The high-performance channel has facilitated political and business events held online between China and Singapore, including speeches, signings, discussions and interviews.
The IDC has started to be installed in industrial parks, with up to 50 companies using the services it offers. Its projects cover more than ten core technologies, including blockchain, Internet of Things and virtual reality. It is even applied in dozens of areas that require intelligent technologies like telemedicine and smart learning.
An innovation fund will be jointly set up for communication, information and media between the two countries to support programs in areas like Industrial Internet, telemedicine and cross-border financing. Policy support will be provided to improve its service quality and make it more competitive in the market. A union for collaboration on communication and information between China and Singapore was established to improve the IDC platform and support the partnerships with one-stop services and industrial resources.
As the IDC has been well received around the world, companies across China have shown great interest in cooperation. “The fact that Singapore and Chongqing can be connected within several seconds makes them much closer,” said Chief Executive Lew Chuen Hong in an interview.
